I remember in 2001 after the KP scam, several investors sold in panic at a loss.</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="10">" </td> <td>Almost every investor at BrainPoint invested atleast once between sensex level of 8200-10000 in Equity Funds. It actually needed braveheart to go against the tide. Hats off to all our brave investors, who kept accumulating low! </td> </tr> </table><br> Some observations / learnings across Mutual Fund industry& <br> Many experienced investors invested in FMPs / Co FDs / Bank FDs in the second half of 2008 & early 2009 locking their money for next 1-3 years at ~8% post tax returns. Remember LIC s Jeevan Aastha mopped up Rs. 10,000 crores for 5 and 10 years long term period from individual investors when Sensex was at 9000 level? The return that Jeevan Aastha will give over 10 years has almost been delivered by most Equity Funds by now in the span of just few months. Yes, we agree everything should not be invested in equities, some debt investment is needed, but wish if this idea would have prevailed at 20,000 level! The unacceptable to us was investing borrowed money in equities when sensex was at 20,000 (PE 24x) & in debt when sensex was at 9000 (PE 10x). <br><br> At BrainPoint we recommended to quit equity funds between 18000-21000.We kept saying  Keep Accumulating Low till the lowest point because, we had conviction that what we are recommending is right. <br><br> What s the point of watching business TV channels & reading business newspapers when many informed investors across India didn t sell near highs & were anticipating 6000 levels at lows. Result - golden opportunities lost. To add to it, 25% Equity SIPs got stopped in 3rd quarter of 2008 across MF industry.
